K-12 School Profile System

Glossary: Quality of School Life (QSL) Survey

This survey contains 49 statements about what students think about their school and school lives (QSL Survey statements/questions). In particular, this survey collects information on students’ overall liking for school and how students describe their school life.  Each statement is in the form "School is a place where...".  For example, "School is a place where . . . I like to be".

To each statement there are four possible answers:

Definitely Agree, Mostly Agree, Mostly Disagree and Definitely Disagree

Student answers for Definitely Agree and Mostly Agree have been combined.  This result is what appears in the QSL report, "the percent of students agreeing" with the statement - giving an indication of "agreement" among the students.  NOTE: some statements are in the negative tense, therefore a high percentage of students agreeing with such a statement indicates a negative feeling among students.

Similarly, Definitely Disagree and Mostly Disagree have been combined as well.  This does not appear on the report.  To get the percent of students "disagreeing" with a statement, simply subtract the percent agreeing from 100%.
